LGBTQIA+ older adults are a growing population yet still often invisible in social work services and supports. Because many LGBTQIA+ older adults experience heightened health, social, and economic disparities, targeted interventions, services, and resources can benefit this population. And social workers are well-poised to help. Social workers are uniquely positioned to practice at multiple levels while simultaneously interacting with multiple systems.
By understanding key laws and policies impacting LGBTQIA+ older adults, social workers can be better prepared to provide meaningful services and supports for this community.
